After getting acquainted with the recently built track in Rodby, Denmark, in the Champions of the Future Euro Series, Martin Molnár returned to the 1,245-metre-long track in the FIA European Karting Championship. The Energy Corse driver had a good pace throughout the weekend, but luck was not on his side.
Martin Molnár was flagged off in sixth place twice during the third race weekend of the FIA Karting European Championship. However, an accident and a technical issue hindered the progress of the Energy Corse karting driver in Rodby, Denmark. Martin had previously familiarized himself with the track two weeks earlier during the round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series, and he was able to put his experience to good use in the European Championship. But this did not always guarantee a good result.
In Friday’s qualifying session, Martin Molnár achieved the 7th fastest time in his group, securing his starting position for the first heat of the weekend. However, while running in 6th place during the heat, his engine stalled and he had to retire from the race. To make matters worse, he was also hit from behind. In the following races, he had to compete with the reserve engine. Despite this setback, he showed good pace in the Saturday heats, earning two 6th-place finishes and two 9th-place finishes. However, the continuation on Sunday didn’t go as well. After finishing in the 17th place in the Prefinal, he was involved in a crash in the Final and had nowhere to go, which meant that the race ended early for him.
„After an unlucky start on the first day, my second day went well, and the heats were quite varied. Sometimes I got stuck at the start and fell back, but I had a good pace and always managed to regain the positions I lost. Sunday’s Prefinal was another eventful one. I was thrown off the track at the start and ended up with two wheels on the grass at the exit of the first corner, my bumper fell in and then I was struggling with the dirty tyres. There was a lot of chaos with overtaking maneuvers and pushing during the race, but despite the setbacks, my pace was decent. I managed to regain some positions after falling behind. I couldn’t do the same in the final, as the final lasted five corners for me. There was an accident in front of me which I couldn’t avoid, because there was not enough space, so the race was over for me.” – said the Hungarian Motorsport Academy supported athlete.
„That’s how our weekend went, but we’ll keep going and prepare for the next race. Thanks for the hard work to my team Energy Corse Racing Karts, the highly prepared Tm Kart engines to Machac Motors and my coaches for getting the best out of me. Thank you for the support from my partners, my family, MOTAM, Hungarian Motorsport Academy.”
Martin has no time to rest as he will be racing again this weekend, between 23rd and 25th June, at the fourth round of the WSK Open Series in Sarno, Italy.
