This weekend, Tamás Gender Junior competed in the second round of the WSK Super Master Series in Franciacorta, Italy. The 12 year old kart driver from Parolin Racing Kart has had a competitive race and although his weekend didn’t go as planned, he still has a reason to be proud.
The second round of this year’s prestigious WSK Super Master Series was held last weekend in Franciacorta, Italy. As usual, the event fielded by the world’s best kart drivers, so the battle for every position was expected to be a tough one. This was especially true for the OKJ category, which had 106 competitors.
One of them was Tamás Gender Junior, the Hungarian driver of Parolin Racing Kart. The 12-year-old had been through a difficult first round in the WSK Super Master Series and was looking forward to the second weekend with confidence and hopes of qualifying for the final. The official program started well for him, but he faced with difficulties in the qualifying session, which determined his future participation.
„In the warm-up session on Friday I had a good pace, but in the qualifying session the kart was sliding a bit, so I only finished on the 27th position in my group. In the first heat the steering wheel was heavy and the front of the kart was too grippy, but after a good start I still managed to gain seven positions, while in the second heat I was able to move up five places,” said the HUMDA-supported driver.
“In the first heat on Saturday, I managed to closing up even better and I was already in the 17th position when I was pushed out onto the grass by one of my rivals and fell back to the end of the field. From there, I was able to climb up the field by running the fastest personal laps and still finished three places better than where I started.”
“My best result was in the second heat on Saturday, where I managed to gain ten positions. I could have done the same in the last heat, but after a good start I was involved in an accident on the third lap and it was impossible to avoid it, so the race ended early for me. In the end, I missed the prefinal by four positions, which I could have achieved without the accident.”
“We had another challenging race weekend and I would like to say thank you to my mechanic Raffaele Polise, my coach Felice Tiene, to Parolin Racing Kart, GFR Engines, HUMDA, Apex Instituto and Fit4Race for their work over the whole weekend. We will come back stronger next race weekend.”
Tamás Gender Junior will next compete at the third round of the WSK Super Master Series in Sarno, between March 3 and 5.
