With excellent racing, Levente Losonczy achieved 5th place in the first race of the Vallelunga round of the TCR Italy championship, becoming the top performer in the under-25 driver classification. On Sunday, he improved his starting position in the penultimate round of the Italian series.
Levente Losonczy delivered one of his best performances in this year’s TCR Italy series during the first race in Vallelunga. Starting from the 14th position, the Aggressive Team Italia driver gradually moved up to the 5th position over the 30-minute race. As a result, the Győr-based driver also topped the under-25 driver standings, allowing him to stand on the top step of the podium.
According to TCR Italy rules, two practice sessions took place on Friday, during which Levente secured the 9th and 16th positions. He felt prepared for the Saturday qualifying session, but an unexpected issue arose, causing him to start both Saturday and Sunday’s races from the midfield.
“We started the day with the qualifying, which didn’t go very well as my rear tyres were losing air. I tried to make the most of it, but ended up starting from 14th place in the first race today. I made a good start here and improved several positions at the halfway point of the race, but there were two Hyundai cars behind me with very good pace and I knew I couldn’t make any mistakes. I managed to keep up the pace, one of them caught me a bit before the end of the race, but I fended them off,” said the Hungarian Motorsport Academy driver.
On Sunday, Levente and the team made adjustments to the setup, and the race proved to be more competitive. Battles ensued after the start, and Levente spent a significant portion of the race in the 14th to 15th positions. Ultimately, he crossed the finish line in 12th place in the penultimate round of the Italian championship season.
“Similar to Saturday, my start went well, and we smoothly navigated the first turn without any errors. The others also had good starts, so I couldn’t make any progress, and in the first two laps, I didn’t have any opportunities. I got stuck behind an Audi. On the straight, it always pulled away, no matter how hard I tried to get alongside and force an error. During the battle, the group behind us caught up, and I had to defend. Although we made some adjustments to the setup compared to yesterday, the car still had understeer. In this race, it wasn’t possible to achieve a better result, but we still have two more weekends this year, and we’re moving forward!”
“Thank you very much to Aggressive Team Italia for providing me with a superbly prepared car, to Gianni Morbidelli for his weekend efforts, to my father, our sponsors, and the Hungarian Motorsport Academy for their support!”
Levente’s racing schedule for this year still includes two more weekends. The TCR Europe season finale takes place in Barcelona from October 20th to 22nd, followed by the TCR Italy season farewell in Imola from October 27th to 29th. Earlier in the season, Levente achieved a 3rd place finish in Imola.
