Tamás Gender Jr. will continue his season in the first round of the Champions of the Future Euro Series, competing against a field of more than 80 drivers. The 12-year-old kart racer is returning from an injury, and his goal is to enjoy every moment of the race weekend.
From the Vesuvius to the shores of the Balearic Sea, the top European karting drivers in the OK and OKJ categories will visit Valencia, which is already bathed in almost summer-like warmth, to take part in the first round of this year’s Champions of the Future Euro Series. Tamás Gender Jr. will also compete in the latter category, whose participation was uncertain for a while in the Valencia opener.
The driver of Parolin Racing Kart suffered a rib injury during last week’s round of the WSK Super Master Series in Sarno, which forced them to sit out the entire Sunday.
“Since the Saturday of the race weekend in Sarno, I’ve been working hard to fully recover as soon as possible. I’ve been undergoing medical treatment for the last few days, and after consulting with my doctor, we have decided to go to Valencia. I felt my injury during the free practice on Thursday, but it didn’t affect my competitiveness on the track, so we’ll go ahead and prepare for the rest of the weekend,” said the HUMDA-supported athlete.
“This is a very important race for me as it’s my first time in the Champions of the Future Euro Series. I like the track, I’ve raced on it before, it’s a fast and technical asphalt track. My main goal now is to enjoy the race weekend and be able to drive the kart without any problems. In hindsight, it was a good decision to withdraw from the last day of the previous race because that’s why I’m here now.”
The first round at the Kartodromo Internacional Lucas Guerrero race track brought together a huge field in the OKJ category, with more than 80 drivers competing.
The five-round Champions of the Future Euro Series, which runs from March to September, is in its fourth round this year, and has previously featured names such as Ugo Ugochukwu, who completed a full Formula 4 season with Prema Racing this year as a McLaren junior, and Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is already being touted as a future Formula 1 world champion and is being promoted by Mercedes.
The first Heats in both categories will be held on Friday 10 March, followed by the next Heats on Saturday and the Final and the Super Heat on Sunday.
